New York Comic and Picture Story Symposium

The great Ben Katchor was kind enough to invite me to speak at The 329th meeting of the NY Comics & Picture-story Symposium in March 2022. I spoke about using poetics to study and create comics and did my best to highlight some of my favorite comics.

SWEAT CENTER

In the Summer of 2021, I was commissioned to create a zine for Meow Wolf’s Convergence Station News Stand. The News Stand appeared at various locations around the state of Colorado to promote the opening of Meow Wolf’s Denver installation. I was asked to make a zine about the great moments in sports throughout the multiverse. So, I produced Sweat Center - an illustrated list of the top ten most memorable moments featuring sports like Cat-Sledding, Fish-Boxing, Martian Arm-Wrestling and bird-watching. My brother Nick made some science-fiction advertisements for it, and together we produced a 24 page, full color zine. It was a fun, bizarre project. Here are a few of the illustrations.

The video above is the black and white/silent cut of a short animation I have been working on. My partner, Madi Chamberlain, and I are working hard painting each frame. Keep your eyes peeled for the next iteration.
